<div itemprop="description">Charlie Kennedy passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, September 22, 2014. Born in O'Leary PEI, son of the late Raymond and Isabel (England) Kennedy. Charlie will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years Mary (Reed) Kennedy, two sons Reed Kennedy of Moncton, Andrew (Pamela) Kennedy of Charlottetown PEI, daughter Lynne (Hazen) Banks of Truro, NS, four grandchildren; Lauren, Aaron, Jordan and Eric. He is also survived by brother Ian Kennedy of Laguna Beach, CA and several nieces. <br /><br />Charlie took over &ldquo;Kennedy Agencies&rdquo; from his father in 1957 and ran the business successfully until 1988. He was active for 30 years in the food industry and it&rsquo;s associations in Atlantic Canada.<br /><br />Charlie was very active in sports his entire life. He was a great athlete in his younger years, focusing on hockey and baseball. Charlie played hockey for the Charlottetown Abbies Midgets, won the Canadian midget title in the 1947-48 season. Later he played on Junior teams in New Glasgow and Halifax, in what today would be consider major Junior A.<br /><br />Charlie touched many young lives through his numerous volunteer activities &ndash; coaching, hockey and soccer as well as league development, executive positions, fundraising and awards banquets to mention a few. Charlie was a co-founder of the NB Central Midget Hockey League (CMHL) and was active in the league in many roles for over 30 years. Charlie received the CAHA &ldquo;service to minor hockey&rdquo; award, the NBAHA &ldquo;order of hockey fellowship&rdquo;. President for 10 years of Codiac Senior Soccer&rsquo;s League, with 25 years of service in a number of positions. Charlie received Codiac Senior Soccer&rsquo;s honorary life member award as well as volunteer&rsquo;s awards from CMHL and CKRA (Championship Kart Racing Assoc.).<br /><br />Charlie was an active member of the Mount Royal United Church, and in recent years the YMCA. <br /><br />Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, September 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Mount Royal United Church on Friday, September 26 at 1:00 pm followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. <br /><br />In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charlie's memory made to the ALS Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
