It is with a mix of sorrow and gratitude that the family of Laurie Franklyn (Frank) Dauphinee, 90, announces his passing on September 13, 2015, at the Veterans’ Health Centre, Moncton, NB. A son of the late Mildred and Eldon Dauphinee, Frank spent his early years in Eastern Passage, NS. In 1943, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army Corps and after training in Ontario and England, saw active duty in Germany and Holland. Shortly before the war ended, Frank was reported missing in action, however; later confirmed to be a prisoner-of-war at the notorious Stalag II B camp, in northern Germany. Shortly after the war's end, Frank joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and in his career, served on bases in Germany, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec and New Brunswick. He retired as a Warrant Officer at CFB Moncton in 1975. Frank later accepted a position with the Moncton Library, where he stayed for over a decade and took great pleasure in meeting people of all ages on his journeys with the Westmorland and Albert County bookmobiles.

A kind and gentle man, with a warm smile and radiant eyes, Frank's philosophy was to make the best of every situation, live life to the fullest - and help others do the same. He would talk with anyone and was loved by everyone he met. He found great enjoyment, even in his final days, in listening to music. And in his better days, whenever dance cards were on the table his was always full. One of his favourite pastimes was watching the blue jays scramble for peanuts on his patio. Frank also had a penchant for what can only be called 'unique' automobiles, including his blue Hippie Van and red Boss Hogg cadillac. A proud military man, Frank was a long-time member of the Riverview Veterans' Association, where he served two terms as president, and the Moncton Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6. He treasured his friendships with fellow Veterans and was always first draft pick on darts' night, as their best double and triple-19 shooter. However, Frank's greatest joy was, without question, spending time with his family and life-long friends.

Frank is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; son, Laurie (Eileen); daughters, Linda Brewster (Gordon) and Marie Dauphinee-Booth (Terry); brother, Aubrey (Juliette); and sisters-in-law, Ollie Dauphinee and Jessie Price (UK). He will also live on in the hearts of his grandchildren, Kelly, Jason, Kirsten, Benjamin and Christine; great-grandchildren, Joey, Jonathan, Mary Hanna and Liam; and his many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by sisters Mona (in infancy) and Aileen (Cribby); and brothers Wilfred (WWII), Vincent (Jack) and Bernard (Bun).

Special thanks to the highly caring and compassionate administration and staff at the Veterans' Health Centre.

Cremation has taken place. A Last Post service for Frank will take place immediately preceding his memorial service on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 2:00pm at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB. Frank would be happy to know that others are being helped by donations made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Society, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6, Children's Wish Foundation or any charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, (506) 852-3530.

Life is better when you are happy, but best when others are happy because of you.
