<div itemprop="description"><br> <br>Gary Malcolm Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Moncton City Hospital on December 29th, 2016, at 60 years old after a short battle with cancer. Born in Campbellton, NB on July 25th, 1956, Gary was the son of Mac and Betty Nelson of Grand Bay-Westfield. He is survived by his wife and best friend Chris (Stanley) Nelson, to whom he was happily married to for almost 40 years. He is also survived by three children, Andrew (Melinda) Nelson and their children, Caleb, Jaydon, Eli, and Kendra; Kelly (Joel) White and their children, Ayla and Ayden; and Tony (Kim) Nelson and their children Landen (predeceased) and Kate. Gary is also survived by his brothers Paul (Wanda) Nelson and Ron (Debbie) Nelson, brother in-law Jim (Barb) Stanley and his sister in-law Carol Thorne. He was predeceased by brother in-law Ray Thorne, brother in-law Bill Stanley and sister in-law Debby Stanley. Gary was survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary was a long time employee of NBTel and Bell Aliant (retiring after 35 years of service). After retirement, Gary and Chris moved from their long-time home in Grand Bay and relocated to Moncton to be near their children. During the summer months Chris and Gary continued to visit one of their favorite places, which is their cottage on the Belleisle Bay. While visiting, Gary enjoyed spending his time sailing, relaxing on the deck with his book and binoculars, and watching the grill. Gary was a devoted Christian and family man. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone for their continued support and prayers during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Moncton City Hospital for the care Gary received during his stay. Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, January 1st from 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Hillside Baptist Church, 2290 Mountain Road on Monday, January 2nd at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jerry Reddy officiating. Reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillside Baptist Church, the IWK Children’s Hospital or to Walk to Remember Moncton (through the friends of the Moncton Hospital).
