<div itemprop="description">STEEVES, HERBERT L., passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home (Veteran’s Unit) on Thursday, March 16 2017 at the age of 96. Loving husband of nearly 68 years to Bertha (Geldart) Steeves. Born in Moncton on March 9, 1921; he was the son of the late William and Essie (Steeves) Steeves. <br><br>He will be greatly missed by his son, Robert Steeves and his wife Nancy Curtis from Blackville NB, one granddaughter, Erin Bowlen from Fredericton, a sister, Carole Lee from Toronto Ont as well as several nieces and nephews. <br><br>He is predeceased by his sister, Vera Dorey and an infant brother, Willis. <br><br>Herb served his country in WW II in the RCAF 143 Wing in England, Denmark and the Netherlands as Ground crew (armour). He returned to Moncton to continue his employment with CN where he started as a teenager as a messenger runner and then moved up to Budget Clerk where he retired after nearly 40 years.<br><br>He was a Baptist by faith and long-time member of Allison Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Steward and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He loved to sing and was a member of the Men’s Male Chorus of Moncton. Herb loved to putter and was a multi-faceted hobbyist who enjoyed model railroading, R/C models, gardening and even built a calliope for the Moncton 100 celebration as well as a Steeves reunion. He and Bertha loved to take long drives especially throughout Canada and the US. He also travelled to Europe for the Liberation of Holland celebrations. <br><br>A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Fair Haven Funeral Home (1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB) on Wednesday, March 22 at 2pm, followed by a reception. Interment will take place in the Fair Haven Cemetery. <br><br>In memory of Herbert, a donation to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. <br><br></div>
