On January 14, 2017, in her 97th year, God called Ruth home. She has gone to join her parents, William and Emily (Reeve) Cudworth, her sisters; Peg Normington, Helen Holden and her husbands Hugh McConkey and Robert Biggin. She leaves behind her children Diahann (Agnes), Deborah, John (Tracy), Judith (Rick) and Peter (Donna) and her grandchildren Steve, Hayley, Tara, Ryan and Nikki. She will also be remembered by her sister Joan Thomson and her many friends she has made over the years.
Born in Orillia and raised in Sudbury and Westmount, QC, Ruth settled in Toronto in 1937 where she attended Moulton College for Ladies. Married in 1944, Ruth raised her five children in Toronto and then Maple and Richmond Hill. While in Maple she spent four years as a Councillor with Vaughan Township.
Music played a large role in Ruth’s life. She sang in Church choirs for close to 80 years and after she and her husband retired to Green Briar in Alliston, she was one of the original members of the Silvertones. She will now be singing with a larger choir.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date.
Interment will take place in Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in the spring. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506) 852-3530.
