Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Raymond O’Brien; sisters Alfreda, Irene and Ruby, her brothers; Al, Stan, Guy and Bernie.

Nettie is survived by her sister; Carmel Higgins of Moncton, daughters; Janice O'Brien of Toronto, Cheryl Leger of Salisbury, Gail (Rob) Blair of Alberta and Kim (Peter) O'Brien-Jakobowski of Alberta, her son; Lawrence “Larry” O'Brien of Grangeville, son-in-law; Robert “Bob” Leger of Riverview, as well as 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law; Evelyn O’Brien of Leduc and Pearl Comeau of Mississauga, brother-in-law; Lloyd O’Brien of Montreal and her devoted companion Carl Swift of Moncton.

Nettie always approached life with a positive attitude, seeking to grow and to learn and to use her talents at every opportunity throughout her life. She handled adversity with faith, budgeted for a large family with resourcefulness and embraced and gave back to her various communities with active participation and enthusiasm. She loved to sew, paint, dance and sing. She had a delightful sense of humour. She came to Moncton as a young girl from the small community of Coal Branch, NB to work for the Moncton phone company. She later became one of Cecil Peake’s ‘Angels’, for Peake’s Department Store. She was active for many years in the Legion of Mary, sang in the church choir at St. Augustine’s Church - and with continued joy - more recently, at People’s Park Tower, where she lived and enjoyed a full community life with the residents and staff.

Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Rd, Moncton beginning with a private visitation for family on Friday morning, December 4th followed by visitation for the public on Friday, December 4th from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine’s Church at 340 Dominion Street, Moncton, NB on Saturday, December 5th at 11:00 am followed by a reception at Fair Haven Funeral Home, Garden View Reception Room. Interment to take place at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nettie’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Moncton Hospital (5100) for the kindness, compassion and care that was given to Nettie during her stay with them. Heartfelt thanks also to Dr. Chris Gallant whose kindness, support and care made a difficult time easier to bear.
